BOARD MINUTES
Attendees: Kale Alderson, Lew Altman, Jim Calkins, Keith Halvorson, Andy Malcolm, Augie Marabuto, Mark Ruhe, Mark Stites
Not Present: Tim Elsken
Guests: Joe Lorono, Jim Rangel
Call to Order: 6:43 by Jim Calkins
I. Minutes from 1/29/24 Meeting – A. Malcolm
- Reviewed
o Motion to Approve: T. Elskin
o Second: M. Stites
o Approved unanimously.
II. Treasurer Report – M. Stites
- Approved unanimously.
- Recommend starting to collect dues now to boost reserves.
o Lew will set up dues renewals in Member Planet with a note to pay via Zelle or Venmo.
o Recommend turning off ‘auto pay’ for dues.
- Recommend starting to calculate menu costs for end of year event.
o Jim will get final banquet and tournament numbers for 2024 and pass to Lew.
o Lew will include in his e-mail.
- Motion to keep dues the same at $100 / $110 – Lew
o Second: Stites
o Approved unanimously.
III. Board Status – Discussion
- Members up for election:
o T. Elskin, K. Alderson, A. Marabuto, L. Altman, K. Halvorson
- Upcoming Vacancy
o Mark Ruhe resigning as of 11/1/24 (moving out of the area).
- Motion for board to elect a replacement for remainder of Mark’s term – Lew
o Second: Stites
o Approved unanimously.
- Joe Lorono nominated to replace M. Ruhe – Lew
o Second: Stites
o Approved unanimously.
- Kale has agreed to be Tournament Director beginning in 2025.
IV. Membership Review – Discussion
- Review of current roster.
- Joe advises it is possible MGA can pick up 15 members from PB Hackers.
o A lot of PB Hackers are South Bay-based
- May also be able to pull in 9 from Federal Reserve.
- Motion for Joe L. to make a formal proposal to PB Hackers to join MGA. Joe and Lew will coordinate on what the features will be. PB Hackers members coming over will be offered renewal rate of $100.
o Second: Augie
o Approved unanimously.
- Jim will get pricing to PB Hackers for EOY event.
o Joe will review with the full membership of PB Hackers at 11/9 event.
V. Year-end Event
VI. 2025 MGA Tournament Schedule – Discussion
- Reviewed proposed venues for 2025.
- Provided feedback to Kale.
- Looking at trending closer to South Bay to accommodate PB Hackers.
VII. Golf Genius 2025 - Discussion
- Lew recommends staying with Golf Genius for 2025.
- Current rate off from Golf Genius is $10/member
- Motion to renew with Golf Genius – Andy
o Second: Mark
o Approved unanimously.
VIII. Flights for 2025 – Discussion
- Concluded it is too early to re-flight members.
IX. Match Play – Discussion
- New Champion needed if going forward in 2025.
- Andy offered to take over.
- Motion for Andy to take – Augie
o Second: Lew
o Approved unanimously.
X. NCGA Ambassador
- Andy will forward information from NCGA via Golf Genius.
